The joint research project “EnEff:Wärme – MeFlexWärme”, led by etit Professor Florian Steinke, was completed in December 2023 after a four-year project period. The project deals with the topic of how future district heating networks can be optimally operated in the context of the energy transition.

Schülerinnen-Projekttage 2024 at the etit faculty
This year, the 8th Schülerinnen-Projekttage in the etit department took place from February 20 to 22. 75 students in grades 5 to 11 from four schools in Darmstadt and the surrounding area attended age-appropriate workshops in various fields of electrical engineering and information technology and were able to gain insights into their exciting subject areas.

etit at the opening of the ryon transition centre in Gernsheim
Innovation starts now – under this motto, the ryon GreenTech Accelerator Transition Center was opened in Gernsheim on 23 February 2024. A state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure for innovation and research projects has been created in the Transition Centre. Research groups led by etit professors Tran Quoc Khanh and Heinz Koeppl were invited to present their innovative projects.

Cluster project CoM2Life clears the first hurdle in its application for Cluster of Excellence funding
2024 As one of three successful draft proposals submitted by TU Darmstadt the CoM2Life cluster project has been selected and invited to prepare full applications and submit them for funding as part of the Cluster of Excellence funding line. Researchers in the CoM2Life project at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research and TU Darmstadt are conducting research into biomaterials that will enable medical innovations such as tissue repair or the development of artificial organs. The site spokesperson for CoM2Life at TU Darmstadt is etit Professor Heinz Koeppl.

etit professor Sascha Preu receives Proof of Concept Grant from the European Research Council
With his “Photonic Vector Network Analyzers” (PhoVeNA) project, TU professor Sascha Preu (Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) has received a Proof of Concept Grant for 150,000 euros from the European Research Council ERC. The project focuses on developing photonic characterization systems for the next generation of communication technology, which operates in the terahertz range.

Bachelor's student of mechatronics wins TU ideas competition for students
David Weiß won first place in the TU ideas competition for students with Gaffop, an easy-to-install anti-gaffer wall that protects both emergency services and patients from disruptive onlookers in the event of an accident. A scholarship from the Thomas Weiland Foundation supports him in the realisation of his innovative projects. As co-founder of thinc! Darmstadt, he also shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for entrepreneurship with like-minded students.

European Union grants millions to GSI research project on tumor therapy
Professor Christian Graeff from TU Darmstadt and GSI’s Biophysics Department has been awarded the highly sought-after Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). The prestigious research funding award supports a project to improve tumor therapy with a funding sum in the millions. Graeff will lead this research project as principal investigator and conduct it with a corresponding team.

On Wednesday, 22.11.2023, TU Darmstadt celebrated its annual Teaching Day, which is dedicated to current issues and challenges in studying and teaching. The traditional conclusion of the day was the presentation of the Athena Prizes, which are awarded by the Carlo and Karin Giersch Foundation. The Athena Prizes are endowed with a total of 46,000 euros.

4th semester etit students feel tumours with robotic arms
As part of the Measurement Technology Lab at Professor Mario Kupnik's MUST Laboratory, students carry out a liver biopsy on a tissue phantom – using a robotic arm. This was specially developed together with students. The Lab is an essential part of the degree programme in which the theory learned is put into practice.

Young scientist award for research into renewable energies

etit scientist Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering receives prestigious award
On 13 December 2023, Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering, Athene Young Investigator at TU Darmstadt, will be honoured as a Young Scientist of the Werner von Siemens Ring Foundation. She receives the award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, for her contribution to the development of a future energy distribution system for renewable energies. The award ceremony will take place in the Electoral Palace in Mainz.
