“No nonsense with solder” was the motto of Girls' Day 2024 at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Darmstadt. 21 schoolgirls came to find out about the profession of an electrical engineer and to get hands-on with soldering.

21 schoolgirls from grades 5 – 9 listened to a presentation by Dr Andreas Haun, Head of the Service Centre, on the career profile of an electrical engineer. From the theoretical basics to the practical development opportunities, his presentation showed the whole range of courses we offer and what specialisation is possible.

This was followed by a soldering workshop, where a circuit board was fitted with various components, soldered and assembled under the guidance of tutors. The faculty 18 student councils (MEC, medtec, etit and iST) had worked hard to design an Arduino LED pendulum for the students, in which a circuit board fitted with LEDs rotates and can thus project images. The students enthusiastically learnt how to use hot soldering irons safely and the finished project made everyone's eyes light up.

A concluding lunch in the canteen with all those involved provided an opportunity for lively discussion. The sentence “I'll be back next year” was uttered very often.
