Department receives excellent ratings from HR managers and students
Germany's human resources managers rate etit as one of the top electrical engineering and information technology departments in Germany. This is the result of the current university career ranking of the „WirtschaftsWoche“. The CHE University Ranking 2019, based on a survey with undergraduate students, also shows top marks for the department.

Associate Professor of etit receives Robert Piloty Prize
Professor Klara Nahrstedt has been awarded the Robert Piloty Prize 2018 of the TU Darmstadt for her many years of outstanding research and development work. For many years she has been working with Professor Ralf Steinmetz. Also awarded was Professor Wolfgang Dahmen. The internationally renowned personalities each received a representative Robert Piloty medal and prize money of 5,000 euros.

Paving the way: an accelerator on a microchip

Electrical engineers at the TU developed design as part of international collaboration
Electrical engineers in the accelerator physics group at TU Darmstadt have developed a design for a laser-driven electron accelerator so small it could be produced on a silicon chip. It would be inexpensive and with multiple applications. The design, which has been published in Physical Review Letters, is now being realised as part of an international collaboration.

In the 11th funding season of the LOEWE programme, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art is also supporting the two new projects „FLAME“ and „Natur 4.0“, in which researchers from the etit department will be involved.

Sebastian Schöps and Sascha Preu appointed to new Kittler professorships
How can early career researchers be promoted and research at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology be designed in such a way that groundbreaking research results can be achieved? The department developed a new professorship model for this purpose. It was named after the world's first professor of electrical engineering Professor Erasmus Kittler from Darmstadt.

Future Field of Study: Biomedical Engineering

Collaborative study programme by TU Darmstadt and University Frankfurt
TU Darmstadt and the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main have been working intensively to develop a joint collaborative study programme for a B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering. And everything is now ready: The first Biomedical Engineering students will be welcomed to the Rhine-Main Universities in the winter semester 2018/19.

Scientists at TU Darmstadt are Working on Algorithms to Detect Atrial Fibrillation
There are currently an estimated 1.8 million people in Germany who have atrial fibrillation but do not know it. Now a Dutch company has developed an app with which a smartphone can be used to detect this dangerous cardiac arrhythmia. Scientists at TU Darmstadt are helping to ensure the recorded data is interpreted correctly and efficiently.

Two million Euros of support for synthetic biology at department etit
The European Research Council awards an ERC Consolidator Grant to Heinz Koeppl, professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and supports him for a period of five years with a total of two Million Euros. This will further strengthen the activities of TU Darmstadt in the domain of synthetic biology.

At this year's European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) on Kos, Greece, Tim Schäck won out over the competitors from 6 other countries with the presentation about his thesis “Beating Atrial Fibrillation” during the finals of the Three Minute Thesis® (3MT®) competition.

Humboldt Award Winner Widmer at the Institute of Multimedia Communication
From January until the end of May 2017, Prof. Dr. Joerg Widmer works as a guest scientist at etit’s Institute of Multimedia Communication. His research focuses on intelligent wireless communication. On January 19th he gave a lecture addressing the topic of “scaling up next-generation wireless networks."
