etit-Wissenschaftlerin forscht an der TU München
Unterirdische Hochspannungsgleichstrom-Kabelsysteme sind eine wichtige Komponente der grünen Energiewende. Im Rahmen einer Forschungskooperation auf diesem Gebiet war etit-Wissenschaftlerin Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering zu Gast an der TU München. Unterstützt wurde der Aufenthalt durch Gleichstellungsmittel des Fachbereichs.

E5 employee finishes second in the IEEE PES PowerTech Best Paper Award.
From 28 June to 2 July 2021, the IEEE PES PowerTech took place under the title „Power for sustainable development goals“. Marcel Böhringer from the department „Electrical Power Supply with Renewable Energies“ was represented in the presentation session „Storage I“ and earned second place in the Papadias Student Paper Award for his paper.

Experience electrical engineering! At the first digital Girls' Day, schoolgirls gained insights into the various areas of electrical engineering. Online experiments or videos, teamwork and a quiz challenged the curiosity of the young participants. The new format was organized by the department's gender equality team.

Jutta Hanson has been appointed by the Leopoldina as a German member of the Energy Steering Panel of EASAC (European Academies Science Advisory Council). In this capacity, the expert in the field of renewable energies will advise EU decision-makers.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Hoog Antink new professor for etit
Since 01.01.2021, Professor Dr.-Ing. Hoog Antink is the new professor for Medical Engineering at the Department etit. His research interests are in the field of artificial intelligence in medicine and medical signal processing. In his lectures, he plans to introduce students to the interplay between technology and medicine.

Tim Hegemann explored this question in his master's thesis in the Research Group of Lighting Technology at the Department etit. His innovative research was honoured by the LiTG with its Young Talent Award.

Student Best Paper Award for Aylin Tastan and Afief D. Pamudi
Darmstadt, 30.10.2020. At the 2020 IEEE Radar Conference, Aylin Tastan and Afief D. Pambudi from the Signal Processing Group of etit both successfully participated in the 2020 IEEE Radar Conference Student Contest. Aylin Tastan’s work on robust clustering for human gait signatures was awarded the Best Student Paper Award, whereas the runner-up by Afief D. Pambudi focused on robust landmine detection. Additionally, Pamudi also won the first prize in the Three-Minute Thesis competition, held for the first at an IEEE Radar Conference

The etit graduation ceremony of the 2019/20 winter semester
The winter semester has nearly run its course. For about 100 graduates of the etit Department, this semester has been the final one in their university career to date. On 14 February 2020, they congregated for their graduation ceremony at the repurposed historic Maschinenhaus (turbine building) of TU Darmstadt, where they received their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates along with words of congratulations from their professors and invited speakers.

Lorenzo Bortot received an IEEE CSC Graduate Study Fellowship in Applied Superconductivity at this year's Magnet Technology Conference in Vancouver. He works at the Chair for Computational Electromagnetics of our department and at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

Ralf Steinmetz accepted into the Academia Europaea
Professor Ralf Steinmetz was admitted to the Academia Europaea. The approximately 4,000 members, including more than 70 Nobel Prize winners, have set themselves the goal of promoting a broad understanding of the benefits of knowledge and learning and highlighting scientific topics that affect society. To this end, Academia Europaea organises annual meetings on a focus topic.

The Strategy Day on October 16th marked the beginning of the development of a new strategy for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. In numerous workshops, participants from different status groups devoted themselves to the Identificatzion of problems as well as opportunities facing their Department. Valuable ideas for shaping the future of the department were developed.
