Serious Games for Cancer Transhabilitation: Establishment of an Interdisciplinary Network within the RMU Consortium for the Planning and Development of a Virtual Reality-Based Transhabilitative 'Serious Game for Health' for Cancer Patients

The project aims to establish an interdisciplinary network focused on conceptualizing and developing a virtual reality (VR)-based health game ("Serious Game for Health / SG4H") for oncology patients. It aims to combine elements from the field of movement, psycho-oncology, and nutrition within a multimodal therapy support framework. The game's objective is to accompany individuals throughout their entire therapy process, empowering them in a playful and motivational manner to actively contribute to their therapy success. The target audience comprises a significant number of patients who, due to the healthcare structure or other reasons, have irregular or no access to established in-person offerings. The "GamesCanTranshab" project aims to create a location- and time-independent therapeutic support offering. The requested seed funding aims to connect RMU partners to facilitate the preparation and submission of joint third-party funding applications to finance the actual development project. Simultaneously, it seeks to establish a long-term research network. The participating institutions in this project include the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) with its Interprofessional Study Center for Movement Research, the University Hospital of Goethe University Frankfurt with the Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychosomatics, and Psychotherapy, and the Technical University of Darmstadt with the Serious Games research group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
