On 19.10.2023, the second networking meeting of subject teachers from the field of science and technology took place at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

After a short introduction by the Dean, Professor Florian Steinke, with a report on the STEM activities in the region since the last meeting as well as a reference to the new website on school offerings Professor Jutta Hanson reported on technical aspects of the energy transition and, with two members of the department, presented a LEGO model built by students to visualise the behaviour of energy supply networks. Professor Yves Burkhardt demonstrated the construction of a hub dynamo with lighting and the replica of an on-board computer, which had already attracted great interest at the opening of the Science Castle.

Under the heading 'MINT experience report', two teachers reported on the MINT activities at their schools: Christine Hartmann heads the Reichenberg School in Reichelsheim and tries to familiarise the pupils at her primary school with science and technology by working with LEGO construction kits with and without robots, in the school's computer pool and with excursions in the surrounding area. In the coming year, the activities are to be expanded with the establishment of a MINT centre.

Axel Böhnke was active in the MINT area at the Edith Stein School for 28 years. He reported very vividly with various exhibits about the activities in the Jugend forscht AG, which he set up with a colleague, as well as about the basic course in technology.

The next networking meeting is planned for spring 2024.
