Onwards into the future!
Graduation ceremony etit of the winter semester 2024/25
2025/02/19 by Benedikt Schöberl, Sandra Siebert
On Friday, 14 February, it was that time again: couples all over the world celebrated Valentine's Day and the graduates of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in the winter semester 2024/25 were honoured with a ceremony. After graduating, they are now embarking on their Master's degrees, are on their way to their doctorates or are moving straight into industry.
At 14:00, the saxophone duet Mainz 02 provided the musical prelude to this semester's celebration. The event began with introductory words from the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Thomas Burg, followed by a welcome from Professor Thomas Walther, Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs at TU Darmstadt, in front of a packed hall in the Maschinenhaus.
This was followed by the Dean of the faculty's speech, in which he first took a short journey into the past by highlighting the history of the faculty, but then looked to the future: the newly graduated engineers can expect the best opportunities for the future – as well as social responsibility. His final wish for the graduates: Above all, to remain authentic and themselves in the new phase of their lives.
Awards for outstanding degrees and outstanding theses
The awards for the best degrees, the so-called Best Student Awards, were presented this time by H&MV Engineering. Moritz Hemsing was honoured for the best Bachelor's degree and Teresa Nolte for the best Master's degree. In his speech to the graduates, Dr Bucher, Regional Manager Germany at H&MV Engineering, emphasised the relevance of engineers in solving the potential consequences of climate change
Once again, the Friedrich Dessauer Foundation Awards from VDE Rhein Main e.V. were presented for particularly outstanding theses. The awards went to Emily Reinhold for her Bachelor's thesis on ‘3D imaging using miniaturised electrical impedance tomography’ and to Markus Krantzik for his Master's thesis on ‘Joint Communication and Computing Optimization for Digital Twin Synchronization with Aerial Relay’.
Teresa Nolte and Klara Wenzel received the Goethe University Frankfurt Award for their outstanding degrees in Medical Engineering with an average grade of 1.0.
More than 200 Bachelor's and Master's degrees in total
After a musical interlude with Mainz 02, the traditional highlight of the event was on the programme: the awarding of graduation certificates, during which the Dean personally congratulated all graduates present. A total of 96 Bachelor's students and 112 Master's students successfully completed their studies this semester, 22 of them in an international degree programme and 8 as a double degree with one of etit's international partner universities. 32 degrees were in the very good category.
At the final get-together with a champagne reception, everyone took the opportunity to chat about their time at TU Darmstadt and their future plans in a cheerful atmosphere with tasty snacks and to take souvenir photos with the caps and gowns provided by Aluminmanagement.
