From 4 to 6 October 2023, the annual conference of the German Colour Science Society (DfwG) took place at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research in Potsdam. Current research in various disciplines of colour science was presented in numerous expert lectures. Several young light technicians from the TU Darmstadt gave lectures.

At this year's DfwG annual meeting, expert lectures were given on four topics: 1. colour and lighting, 2. colour and colour appearance measurement, 3. colour perception and colour production, and 4. colour order.

Professor Qiang Liu from Wuhan University (China) kicked off the thematic block „Colour and Lighting“ with a lecture on the latest research progress on the colour quality of lighting. Julian Klabes, the first of four speakers from the TU Darmstadt, then presented BfN recommendations for light immissions in outdoor lighting installations. The focus was on the background and effects of illuminated advertising installations on colour perception.

Paul Myland spoke about a preliminary study on object-specific lighting preference based on reproductions of paintings. Another lecture on lighting preference was given by Elisabeth Kemmler. She presented the results of her master's thesis on the subject of preference investigation of the white point (Duv) as a function of colour temperature, colour gamut and objects viewed. Dr.-Ing. Adrian Eissfeldt presented the results of his doctoral thesis on the optimisation of LED-based adaptive daylight systems taking into account observer metamerism.

Following the lecture blocks, awards for special achievements in the field of colour science were presented by the DfwG. Three awards went to scientists from the Department of etit: Adrian Eissfeldt was awarded the DfwG sponsorship prize for the best doctoral thesis. Elisabeth Kemmler received the DfwG sponsorship award for the best Master's thesis. Both prizes are endowed with 1,000 euros each. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tran Quoc Khanh was awarded the silver badge of honour for his work at the DfwG over the last 20 years.
