2023/07/20 by

On Friday, 14 July 2023, the graduates of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology were given a ceremonial send-off in summer temperatures. After graduation, they are now tackling their Master's degree, are on their way to their doctorate or directly into business.

The day of the graduation ceremony started punctually at 2:00 p.m. with a musical prelude by the duo E-Cord. With opening remarks by the Dean of the Department, Professor Florian Steinke, and the subsequent welcome by Professor Thomas Walther, who as Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs represented the Presidential Board of the TU Darmstadt, the event began in front of a packed hall in the Maschinenhaus.

This was followed by the ceremonial address of the Dean of the Faculty, in which he first took a short journey into the past by illuminating the history of the Department, reviewing the completed degree programme, but then looking ahead: the freshly graduated engineers expect the best future opportunities – just like social responsibility. His final wish for the graduates: Above all, to remain authentic and themselves in the new phase of their lives.

Dipl.- Industrial Engineer Markus Horn, Head of the Generation Division at ENTEGA AG, gave a welcoming speech to the graduates before presenting the prizes for the Best Students Awards for the best Bachelor's and Master's degrees. This time, Jonas Christian Emrich received the award for the best Bachelor's degree. Johannes Matthias Wilm received the award for the best Master's degree.

Representing all the graduates, the winner of the Master's Award shed light on his studies from the student side in his speech. With his witty anecdotes, he made the audience smile several times.

This semester's Friends of the TU Darmstadt Award went to Marcel Rath for his Bachelor's thesis on “Development and Characterization of an Ultra-Wideband Noise Source”. It was awarded by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Ralf Steinmetz, member of the board of the Friends of the TU Darmstadt.

The traditional highlight of the event was once again the awarding of the degree documents, during which the Dean personally congratulated all the graduates present. A total of 64 Bachelor's students and 83 Master's students, including six in an international degree programme and three as a double-degree with one of etit's international partner universities, successfully completed their studies this semester. 27 degrees were in the very good range.

At the final get-together with a champagne reception, everyone took the opportunity to talk about their time at TU Darmstadt and their plans for the future in a cheerful atmosphere and with delicious snacks.
