Hands-on electrical engineering!
Girls' Day 2023 at the faculty etit
2023/05/21 by Benedikt Schöberl / sas
On April 27, 2023, the annual Girls' Day could once again take place in Presence – and it was a complete success. All 20 places on offer were fully booked. The interested schoolgirls spent a great day at the faculty with exciting insights into electrical engineering and information technology.
The day began at 09:00 with a welcome and a subsequent round of getting to know each other. This was followed by a presentation of the department. After that, the students were allowed to get hands-on: With scientists from the department of electrical energy supply using renewable energies (E5), the students worked on various tasks on the topic of “Sustainable electricity in the energy transition”, were able to ask their questions in a question and answer session, and participated in an online quiz.
I was particularly impressed by the circuit board soldering and the Lego model.
After a short break, the students continued with students from the etit department. Here, the students soldered a circuit board with which they can train their memory in a playful way. After a round of feedback, the students went to the cafeteria, where they had lunch and exchanged experiences with representatives of the department's degree programs in medical technology, mechatronics, electrical engineering and information technology, and information systems technology.
You got a good overview of the different topics.
At 2:00 p.m., the etit Girls' Day 2023 ended for the participants – a day in which they not only learned a lot, but also had a lot of fun.
I found soldering, the model with the climate-friendly current, and learning about the different specialties useful.
Organization and thanks
The Girls' Day was organized by the department's Equal Opportunity Team. They were supported by Rafael Steppan, Aaron Hebing, Siyuan Li and Florian Doch from the Department of Electrical Power Supply using Renewable Energies (E5) of Professor Jutta Hanson as well as the student representatives Etit (Marcel Rath), iST (Nora Simon), MEC (Anya Klyushina, Lina Gaumann) and MecTec (Lea Mertens).
