Distributed real-time decision-making in autonomous driving

New position at RIS

2024/04/11 by

As part of the Emmy Noether Program, Dr. rer.nat. Tatiana Tatarenko is establishing a new working group at the Department of Control Methods and Intelligent Systems. We are therefore looking for a new team member as a research assistant in the field of Distributed Real-Time Decision Making in Autonomous Driving.

The position is within a new research group at the Control Methods and Intelligent Systems lab, which is a part of the DFG Emmy Noether Program. The focus is on development of efficient algorithms that solve real-time decision-making problems in conflict situations and route planning arising in the network of autonomous vehicles. Strategic interactions of vehicles on roads should be modeled by means of game theory. For the resulting games, learning procedures should be developed to solve conflict situations at a possibly fastest rate, which enables real-time route planning. Achieving this goal should ensure efficient and safe behavior of vehicles on roads. The theoretical methods should use modern communication technologies as well as take into account information restrictions in autonomous driving.

Publications in international top venues are desired. Support of teaching and other lab duties is expected.

Requirements:

  • Excellent University Degree (M.Sc. /Diploma) in engineering, mathematics, computer or natural sciences
  • Interested in the topics related to autonomous driving
  • Advanced programming experience (e.g. C,C++, Matlab, Python)
  • Previous knowledge in game-theoretic optimization is advantageous, but can also be learned during the project
  • Very good English is a must, German language skills are beneficial
  • Independent working style, initiative and ability to work in a team

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

Technical University of Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Part-time employment is generally possible.
