Short Biography

Sergey Zhukov was born in Leningrad (now Sankt-Petersburg) in 1963. He received the master degree from the Leningrad’s Polytechnical Institute (now Technical University of Sankt-Petersburg) in 1986, the Ph.D. degree in experimental physics from the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds of the Russian Academy of Science (IMC RAS) in 1996. In 1986-1999 he worked in the laboratory of electrical properties of polymers in IMC RAS. During that time he investigated the molecular mobility in bulk and solution of LC polymers by impedance spectroscopy; the study of the dielectric polarization in polymer solution with specific interactions (H-bonds, complex formation). In 1994 he was granted the Russian President Stipend for Junior Scientists. In 1999 he moved to Germany and worked as a scientific researcher in Ilmenau Technical University at first and then in Darmstadt Technical University, where his activities shifted towards piezoelectric ceramics and polymers.
