Short Biography

Heinz von Seggern studied physics at the University of Goettingen and the Technical University of Hannover where he graduated in 1976 in solid state physics. He then received the Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1979 for his work on “Charge Transport in Teflon”. He then became Postdoc at Bell Laboratories and later principal investigator. His research was concerned with ferroelectric polymers and modeling of charge transport in polymeric dielectrics. In 1982 his work was honoured by the Physics Prize of the Academy of Science of Goettingen. In 1985 he accepted a position as principal investigator at Siemens Research Center in Erlangen, Germany where he was promoted in 1990 to the position of department head. In Siemens he worked on topics of x-ray storage phosphors for medical diagnostics, molecular electronics and organic electronics. In 1997 he assumed the position of full professor at Technische Universitaet of Darmstadt where his interests are directed toward organic electronics (OFET, OLED) and dielectrics. He has published over 170 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals. In 2000 he organized the conference “Organic Electronics: From Light Emitting Diodes to Integrated Circuits” at the EMRS in Strasbourg.
