On September 10, 2024, the Measurement and Sensor Technology group at TU Darmstadt had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest as part of the project: Prof. Gijs Krijnen from the University of Twente, Netherlands. Prof. Krijnen, a leading expert in functional additive manufacturing, delivered an engaging lecture on the opportunities and challenges of seamless sensor integration through 3D printing. LokoAssist
Prof. Krijnen began by discussing the growing importance of 3D printing in modern sensor technology. He demonstrated how this technology enables the direct integration of custom sensors into mechanical structures without the need for subsequent assembly or wiring. These innovations could pave the way for new applications in fields such as robotics, medical technology, and biomechanics.
Particularly impressive were the case studies presented, in which 3D-printed sensors were used in real-world projects. One example was the integration of pressure sensors into flexible materials, which could be used in medical devices to continuously monitor vital signs.
Prof. Krijnen's visit strengthened the scientific ties between TU Darmstadt and the University of Twente and laid the foundation for future collaborations. The Measurement and Sensor Technology group sincerely thanks Prof. Krijnen for his inspiring lecture and looks forward to continued exchange.
