From June 19 to 22, the SAE (Sensors, Actuators, Electronics) field trip took place under this year's organization of the Measurement and Sensor Technology Group. Accompanied by 32 dedicated students, the four exciting days included visits to various renowned companies in the industry: Dentsply Sirona in Bensheim, Bosch in Renningen, BMW in Munich and the Deutsches Museum also in Munich.

Our SAE excursion kicked off on June 19 at Dentsply Sirona in Bensheim. Together we talked intensively about innovative technologies and examined their applications in the field of medical technology. Read more here: [Link]

After a night in Stuttgart, we stopped by the Acoustics and Ultrasound Department of Bosch Research in Renningen. In addition to comprehensive insights into ultrasonic sensor technology, we discussed research ideas and visited the impressive cleanroom complex at the site.

As our last stop in industry, we shined a light on BMW's lighting technology department in Munich. With a deep dive into the challenges of designing outdoor lighting, we were given the opportunity to study the associated measurement technology used to verify it. Of particular interest: the section was presented by an SAE graduate from the Adaptive Lighting Systems and Visual Processing Group, who herself met her future employer during an SAE field trip.

At this point, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all participating companies.

Promoting the exchange among each other and further networking, we visited a charming Munich beer garden. Here, students engaged in deep conversations with scientific staff and learned more about the challenges and joys of working in science – a valuable conversation, especially in light of upcoming theses! At the end of the excursion, we visited the Deutsches Museum to understand the historical development of science and technology. Special thanks to the Association of Friends of Practical Development Methodology at the TU Darmstadt e.V., which supported both the social evening and the museum admission.
