Professor Stefan Nießen’s research focuses on the technical and economic analysis, modeling, and optimization of multimodal energy systems. His work centers on integrated energy systems that efficiently combine multiple energy carriers and infrastructures—especially electricity, heat, and chemical energy.
He emphasizes IT-supported methods for system analysis, decision support, and the optimization of complex energy systems at building, district, and regional scales. The goal is to develop sustainable, economically viable, and resilient solutions for the transformation of energy systems.
Through his industry cooperation professorship, Professor Nießen closely links academic research with industrial applications and current challenges in the energy sector.
