Project Seminar: Medical Data Science Competition
Within the bachelor module 18-ha-1020-pj, students work independently in small groups on a predefined problem from the field of medical data science. The type of problem may involve automatic classification or prediction of a disease from medical signals or data, the extraction of a physiological parameter, etc., and is newly defined each semester. All groups receive the same problem, but must develop their own algorithms, which are evaluated on a hidden dataset. At the end, a ranking of the best-performing algorithms is created. This ranking does not affect the grade, but the best team receives a prize.
The module is also accompanied by 6 lectures and practical sessions intended as an introduction to medical data science. The practical sessions in particular provide an introduction to scientific computing using the Python programming language.
The sessions take place on Mondays at 4:15 PM. Further communication will occur via Moodle.
Please form teams of 2–3 people (both limits are fixed). Anyone without a partner will be randomly assigned to a team.
At the end of the semester, each group will present their results in a poster presentation. Attendance at the final session is mandatory for all participants.
Each group must submit a report (IEEE template, see Moodle) about the project. The report should be two pages long (excluding references).
