Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Konigorski studied electrical engineering from 1977-1983 with a focus on control engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. Subsequently, until 1988 he was a research assistant at the Institute of Control Systems at the TU Karlsruhe under Prof. Dr. rer. nat Dr.-Ing. E. h. Otto Föllinger and did his doctorate in 1987 with a topic on the design of structurally constrained state feedback by means of pole assignement.
From 1988-1991 he was with Robert Bosch GmbH in Schwieberdingen, where he was responsible for the development and application of control systems for electrical power steering and hydraulic rear wheel steering as a group leader in the area of system technology. In 1991 he moved to Thyssen Henschel, New Transport Technologies, in Munich. As head of the Sensor and Control Systems department, he was involved in the development and optimization of various digital sensor and control systems for the Transrapid high-speed magnetic railway. In addition to functional and production-related aspects, the main focus was on the design of a new safety and monitoring concept for digital magnetic control as well as inductive sensor systems for route control and contactless detection of the magnetic air gap.
In 1994 he accepted a professorship at the Technical University Clausthal for the professorship for control engineering and electronics at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology. In addition to leading the institute and the department, he subsequently took on various other tasks within the department, including as dean and spokesman for the Faculty Day for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. From 2001-2003 he was deputy head of department 1 and member of the advisory board of the GMA.
Since December 2004 he has been professor for control systems and mechatronics at the Institute of Automatic Control and Mechatronics in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt. His method-oriented main areas of research are the modeling and design of linear and non-linear MMO-Systems while the application-oriented research focuses in particular on modeling, simulation and digital control of mechatronic systems as well as the analysis and design of chassis and vehicle dynamics controls.
