On Friday, 19 July, it was that time again: the graduates of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in the summer semester 2024 were celebrated with a ceremony in midsummer temperatures. After graduating, they are now embarking on their Master's degree, are on the way to their doctorate or are moving straight into industry.
The ceremony started punctually at 2.00 pm with a musical prelude performed by the young artists of The JLF Project. The event began with introductory words from the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Florian Steinke, followed by a welcome from Professor Heribert Warzecha, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Diversity at TU Darmstadt, in front of a packed hall in the Maschinenhaus.
This was followed by the Dean of the faculty's speech, in which he first took a short journey into the past by highlighting the history of the faculty, but then looked to the future: the newly graduated engineers can expect the best opportunities for the future – as well as social responsibility. His final wish for the graduates: Above all, to remain authentic and themselves in the new phase of their lives.
The Best Student Awards presented by ENTEGA NATURpur Institut gGmbH this time honoured Marius Walther for his Bachelor's degree. Jad Haidamous received the award for the best Master's degree. He also gave the traditional student speech in the programme, in which he looked back on his studies at etit through the eyes of an international student. He emphasised his privilege of being able to pursue and live his goals and dreams – and concluded by calling on his fellow students present to work together to create a world in which every child has the opportunity to do so.
The awards from the Friends of TU Darmstadt were presented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Steinmetz, member of the Board of the Friends of TU Darmstadt. They went to Tobias Wang and Johannes Wilm for their outstanding scientific work. There was also a prizewinner from Goethe University Frankfurt this semester for a degree in medical technology with an average grade of 1.0. The prizewinner was once again Jad Haidamous.
The traditional highlight of the event was once again the presentation of graduation certificates, at which the Dean personally congratulated all graduates present. A total of 78 Bachelor's students and 63 Master's students successfully completed their studies this semester, 9 of them in an international degree programme and 2 as double degrees with one of etit's international partner universities. 34 degrees were in the very good category.
The event ended with a musical finale with The JLF Project and the get-together with a champagne reception. Here everyone once again took the opportunity to chat about their time at TU Darmstadt and their future plans in a cheerful atmosphere with delicious snacks and to take souvenir photos with the caps and gowns provided by Aluminmanagement.
