On 13 December 2023, Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering, Athene Young Investigator at TU Darmstadt, will be honoured as a Young Scientist of the Werner von Siemens Ring Foundation. She receives the award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, for her contribution to the development of a future energy distribution system for renewable energies. The award ceremony will take place in the Electoral Palace in Mainz.

The Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation has been honouring talented individuals in the fields of technology and science since 1978 and offers them opportunities for interdisciplinary networking in a growing network. Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering is one of four young scientists honoured by the Werner von Siemens Ring Foundation for her outstanding achievements, particularly in combining the spirit of research, entrepreneurship and responsibility for society.
Mrs Späck-Leigsnering is representative of a generation of female scientists who are bringing engineering topics to society and is a good role model for women interested in a career in the STEM field.

A brief portrait of Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering
Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering heads a junior research group at the as well as a project as part of the German Research Foundation's Transregio 361 Collaborative Research Centre. As an Athene Young Investigator, the scientist is currently researching the technical feasibility of the energy transition and has set herself the goal of making products and systems safer and more reliable through mathematical modelling and field simulations. Through her collaboration with industry, Dr. Yvonne Späck-Leigsnering is making a significant contribution to Germany's technological leadership in the field of renewable energies and to social acceptance of the measures required to implement the energy transition. One concrete example is the availability of reliable extra-high voltage cables that can be laid underground. Späck-Leigsnering is also employed by Robert Bosch GmbH. “We are delighted with Dr Späck-Leigsnering's success. The award shows once again that with our funding formats for researchers in early career phases, such as the Athene Young Investigator Programme, we select very good scientists with future potential and support them in their careers,” says Prof. Dr. Franziska Lang, Vice President for Academic Careers at TU Darmstadt.
The Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation
The foundation's declared aims are to honour lifetime achievements in technology and the natural sciences and to promote current technology research. For over 100 years, the Werner von Siemens Ring and the personalities honoured with the ring have been important points of reference and motivation for new generations of researchers in the technical and natural sciences. To this end, the Board of Trustees includes both Ring bearers and high-ranking representatives of technical and scientific organisations: the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, the German Research Foundation, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Max Planck Society, the Stifterverband, the Federation of German Industries and the German Association of Technical and Scientific Associations. The Werner-von-Siemens-Ring is considered the highest German honour for people who have significantly advanced technical sciences through their achievements or who have opened up new technical paths with their research. The Werner-von-Siemens-Ring has been awarded since 1916. VDI/VDE-IT GmbH is in charge of the foundation's office. siemens-ring.de
