Building a Smart Radar Sensor Network
Hiwi Stelle
Radar technology is a robust and privacy-preserving solution for smart homes and cities, enabling applications like vital sign monitoring, activity recognition, and person detection. Its ability to function reliably in various weather conditions and without cameras makes it an ideal choice for developing intelligent and privacy-conscious systems. Connecting the radars in a network to enable information exchange enhances robustness, improves localization accuracy, and increases efficiency in environmental sensing.
Therefore, we are seeking a motivated student to assist in setting up and developing such a radar sensor network using the Infineon XENSIV™ BGT60TR13C radar. The radar is integrated into a developer board equipped with WiFi connectivity, enabling seamless data transmission and network integration.
Required Skills:
- Familiarity with radar hardware and basic radar signal processing concepts
- Proficiency in C programming for hardware configuration and radar module control
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including routing and data transmission over local networks (UDP preferred)
- Strong Python programming skills for developing UDP client applications to handle radar data transmission and analysis
Project Objectives:
- Familiarize yourself with the radar hardware and the software provided by Infineon
- Testing the limitations and capabilities of the radar
- Enabling communication between multiple radar nodes and a PC using UDP
- Setting up a testbed environment that can be used for future student projects
- Creating a simple person localization demonstrator
