Two to Montreal to the IUS

We will be represented with two papers at this year's IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS) in Montreal from September 3-8.

We will be presenting two papers at IUS in Montreal this year:

The first paper, “Detection of Air-Voids in Foamed Steel Sheets Using Air-Coupled Lamb Waves” by Christoph Haugwitz et al. presents a non-destructive technique using ultrasonic Lamb waves for early detection of air voids in foamed steel sheets commonly used in lightweight construction. Tests with an artificial air cavity confirmed that the amplitude of Lamb waves is significantly affected, indicating the potential of this method for defect detection.

The second paper, “Scaling of Air-coupled Metastructures for Beam Steering,” by Sören Köble et al. examines the effects of scaling high-frequency acoustic metamaterials to lower frequencies, focusing on the role of thermoviscous effects and surface roughness due to additive manufacturing on their performance. The results highlight limits and potentials of scalability and emphasize the discrepancies between simulation and real-world applications.

We look forward to meeting you on site in Canada.
