Exoskeletons and orthoses for the lower limbs with focus on the sensor system are my main research interests. The goal is to reliably and robustly estimate the user’s intention and the desired level of support. Specific research topics are:
- System-integrated sensors with focus on 3DOF ground reaction forces and muscle activity,
- Sensor fusion for biomechanical data analysis (joint angles, joint torques),
- Machine learning concepts for intention and situation detection,
- Effects of vibration on human balance.
Jürgen Hielscher received his diploma in precision engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, in 2012. He is currently working toward the doctorate degree in the same department. Among others, his research activities involve design and control of multidimensional assistive robotic systems and miniaturized mechanical sensors.
