Development of methods for the automated and optimized operation of complex heating networks within grid control systems

Decarbonization in the heating sector plays a rudimental role in energy transition since heating accounts for large share of final energy consumption. The electrification of heating systems through power-to-heat technologies and the expansion of district heating systems can be utilized as flexibility potential for the power grid.

However, without controlled operation, the potential cannot be fully realized. Thus, advanced methods that enable automated, grid-friendly and cost-efficient operation in real-time are essential.

This research focuses on developing such methods to facilitate the coupling of heating and electricity network, ensuring secure supply and enhancing renewable energy utilization.
