Admission to a doctoral degree

 

If all the requirements are met, the Doctoral Admissions Committee in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (etit) will admit candidates to a doctoral degree. The admissions procedure for completing a doctoral degree in the department is as follows:

1) Choice of supervisor

Choose a supervisor (full-time professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) for your doctorate. Discuss content issues as well as the chances of applying for a position as a research associate with this prospective supervisor in advance. The supervision by persons according to §11 (2) of the Doctoral Regulations is possible in justified cases.

2) Applying for admission as a doctoral candidate

In order to be admitted as a doctoral candidate you must officially apply to the Departmental Dean’s Office.

To do so, please submit the following documents:

  • your CV with emphasis on your academic career

  • Your certificate according to your degree:

Degree at TU Darmstadt
  • Diploma/Master’s degree certificate (copy)
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (copy)

Degree at a German university
  • Diploma/Master’s degree certificate (certified copy)
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (certified copy)

Degree at a university abroad
  • Diploma/Master’s degree certificate (certified copy)
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (certified copy)
  • Translation of Diploma/Master’s degree certificate (if not in English)
  • Translation of Bachelor’s degree certificate (if not in English)
  • Calculation of equivalency of final grade

Uncertified copies can be accepted if the originals are presented.

Please send your application for admission to a doctoral degree, including all the additional documents, to the Dean's Office no later than two weeks prior to the meeting of the Doctoral Admissions Committee. Only complete applications can be considered.

Based on your submission, the Departmental Doctoral Admissions Committee will make a decision on your application, including any conditions to be imposed. You and your supervisor will be informed about the decision by the Dean's Office.

3) Optional: Enrolment as a doctoral student

Enrolment as a doctoral student is not obligatory. It is possible to acquire the qualification without being enrolled.
