During the first funding phase, the researchers developed new mathematical models and simulation methods for the digital design of electric machines. The second phase will focus on three-dimensional modelling, thermal and multiphysics effects, as well as data-driven and AI-assisted optimisation methods. At the kick-off meeting in Graz, the participating researchers discussed the research agenda for the next four years and further strengthened collaboration between the partner institutions.

“The first funding phase clearly demonstrated the potential of close collaboration between our research teams,” said Annette Mütze (TU Graz) and Sebastian Schöps (TU Darmstadt), the spokespersons for the research consortium. “In this second phase, we aim to further advance the digital development of electric machines, laying the foundations for more efficient, sustainable and higher-performance drive technologies that can be applied by engineers in industrial practice.”

TU Darmstadt President Tanja Brühl and TU Graz Rector Horst Bischof also highlighted the significance of the project: “The 'CREATOR' Collaborative Research Centre Transregio is one of the flagship projects of the strategic partnership between our two universities. Strong partnerships are built on the enthusiasm, commitment and mutual trust of the people who bring them to life. 'CREATOR' is an outstanding example of this spirit of collaboration. Through interdisciplinary research, the project is generating pioneering solutions for the design of electric machines.”
