Personalized medicine and therapy monitoring – our main research topics

2025/02/14

We research laser spectroscopic measurement techniques for personalized medicine and therapy monitoring. In this way, we want to contribute to the early detection, rapid and specific diagnosis and personalized treatment of diseases.

We organize our work into four main research lines in order to address current key issues in the healthcare system and to improve the treatment of the most common diseases.

1. Analysis of pharmaceuticals and biomarkers in body fluids (TDM)

Monitoring of biomarkers and drug levels in body fluids for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) at the point of care.

2. Multigas sensor technology and respiratory gas analysis

Analysis of gaseous and volatile biomarkers in exhaled gas for early, non-invasive disease diagnostics and therapy monitoring as well as for the targeted analysis of biochemical processes.

3. Pharmaceutical spectroscopy

Development of highly selective high-throughput techniques for the elucidation of molecular mechanisms of action of novel drugs and pharmaceuticals and in situ process monitoring.

4. Microscopy and chemical imaging

Diagnosis of diseases and elucidation of their molecular pathomechanisms in cells and biomaterials using molecular microscopy and chemical imaging.
